Saga Dawa in Ritoma

May 21st, 2016 - Each year, on the full moon of the 4th lunar month, Tibetans celebrate the most important festival in the Buddhist calendar, the anniversary of the Buddha's attaining enlightenment. In Ritoma, the monastery presides the unfurling of their 'kyigu' or enormous silk thangka, on a hill across the monastery. The whole village turns out in the best attire to celebrate the event and receive blessings. The rain this year, did nothing to dampen enthusiasm.
